Rhiannon Frances is a BVA student at Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin, with a specialization in sculpture through mixed-media art, exploring philosophical and essential aspects of the human experience, embracing the human condition and experimenting with artistic expression.

Ice and Steel, 2023
A sculpture consisting of a melting ice pyramid made of holy water enclosed in a cage-like steel pyramid structure.


Steel as a harsh, machine-made resource enables a cage-like, emotionless feel, working together with the temporary ice as a juxtaposing and contrasting pair. Mirrors were placed underneath the ice and on the wall around to create reflective light off of the ice as it melted.

An early film project in response to Theodore Gericault's, The Raft of the Medusa. 1818. This film was to objectively compare and relate to this story and painting with our Catholic upbringing.
Cargill's Castle, 2023
A collaborative film project created in response to the historic site, Cargill's Castle, in Dunedin.
Narcissus and the Lake, 2023
Exhibited sculpture consisting of screen-printing, chlorophyll staining and digital media/video projection.
Based upon the old legend of Narcissus and the Lake, exploring themes of identity through the study of psychology, childhood and brain patterns of an average human in the modern day.
